Evangelism and mission

Evangelism has to do with living with the gospel intentionally. This is what the Bible teaches about evangelism, “After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee, proclaiming the Good News of God: The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe!” (Mark 1:14CSB). Christian evangelism is to proclaim to people the good news of Salvation in Christ, to call them to repentance and to give God the glory for regeneration and conversion.

Christian mission involves carrying out the mission of God. We are partners in God’s mission. To some extent evangelism and mission interconnect. Every born-again believer is called to be an agent or representative of God’s mission in society.

As a local church we endeavour to continue to pursue and live out the Great Commission Jesus gave to the Church, which we read about in Matthew 28:18-20.

Mercy ministry

Jesus taught, “Blessed are the merciful” (Matthew 5:7), and “Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful” (Luke 6:36). Mercy is defined as compassion and includes feelings and acts of sympathy, kindness, forgiveness, and love.

The significance of mercy in Christian life cannot be overstated. It is a divine mandate that calls believers to emulate God’s character. Scriptures such as Micah 6:8, which exhorts believers “to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God,” succinctly capture this imperative. Mercy, therefore, is not an optional virtue but a core aspect of a Christ-centered life.

Mercy ministry is not a program but rather good conscious effort to be in relationship with hurting people.

Prayer ministry

One of the key lessons we learn from the early church is that they prayed together. Prayer formed a vital part of Jesus’s life and ministry. Throughout the ages, prayer is vital component of any church. If Jesus and the early church placed such an emphasis on prayer how much more should the church of Jesus Christ be praying today.

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” (Acts 2:42 CSB).

“When they had prayed, the place where they were assembled was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God boldly,” (Acts 4:31 CSB).

As a local church we want to encourage believers to a life of prayer. A practical way to engage with this ministry is to come along to our prayer evenings every Monday evening at 18:30 at the church.

mens ministry

“Iron sharpens iron, and one person sharpens one another.” (Proverbs 27:17).

What better context for this to take place as Christian men gather. As men it is important for a space to be created where friendships are cultivated. It is within that space that we are encouraged to grow in our relationship with Jesus. It is in that space where we are challenged and encouraged to learn to lead as the men God created us to be as follow the ultimate example of what it means to a true man.

Ladies ministry

This ministry focuses on offering ladies a safe space where they have the opportunity to connect, encourage and uplift one another as they grow in their faith journey with Christ.

“They are to teach what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children, to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, in submission to their husbands, so that God’s word will not be slandered.” (Titus 2:3a-5 CSB).

Strengthening and partnering

Cornerstone is a partner church in the Advance Movement. Being a partner church means we partner around similar values and doctrines. There are also occasions where we are strengthened by other Advance partner churches.

We value strengthening the Body of Christ through missions with other churches and organisations. As a local church we endeavour to partner with other churches in the community when it comes to seeking opportunities to spread the gospel. This takes place through prayer initiatives where we gather as churches to pray for the greater St Helena Bay Community.
